Xenology
From SEWiki
Xenology is a piece of collaborative SE4-derived fiction. The idea was to create a group of highly alien (ie, beings who do not look or behave anything like humans) races and then place them in a PBW game under human control. The players would then use the game as a platform for writing about and exploring these alien species. Game decisions were to be driven by generating interesting events for the story, rather than in-game victory.
Initially there were 4 players:
- dogscoff playing the KanesS.
- user:civ2buf playing the Robotia Foundation.
- user:unknown enemy playing the Eden Overmind.
- user:Murden playing the Ix Terra.
The game began in May 2003. The Proportions Mod was used, in order to provide a slower pace and more interesting colonies. At first a great deal of excellent story was written but inspiration and motivation waned until the project was declared dead somewhen around October 2003
In May 04, Xenology was resurrected by two of the original authors (dogscoff and user:Unknown Enemy) who produced a considerable amount of new work before closing the project again (mainly due to dogscoff's laziness) in 2005. It may yet resurface in some form or another.
Xenology is, in the completely unbiased opinion of at least one of the authors, one of the finest examples of space empires related fiction ever written.
