Talk:Research and Technology (SEV)

Merged the Research and Technology pages into one page. The Tech Tree still remains separate (and probably should). The FAQ will link directly to the FAQ page. I will add a section within the FAQ page for Research. Fyron, when you get the chance, would you delete the old pages (Research Points, Acquiring Technology, and Unique Discoveries)?

I think I may not have been entirely clear in my suggestions. The idea was that the 3.0 article is primarily there as a list of all the 3.x articles, with maybe a small amount of general introductory text. The 3.x sections can certainly get quite long and numerous, and are better organized as separate articles. It was going one level further, making 3.x.y sections into separate articles, that I meant was a better idea to combine. Take a look at the SEIV FAQ, such as Space Combat (SEIV) or Planet Development (SEIV). If all of the sub-sections of those were put on one page, it would be very long.

(By the way, if you type four tildes (~) as the signature, wiki will put in your username and the date automatically.)

Fyron, I did look at the SEIV Manual. I've read a decent portion of it. First, let me say that I'm not trying to be derogatory, but there are some things that need to be said about it. A majority of the information in the SEIV manual are tips and tricks. Many of the articles are incomplete or very hard to read. There is a lot of great knowledge there, but it is only semi-organized.

Regarding the 3.x and 4.x articles, they really aren't that big for the information that they have. They can almost certainly be manageable under one page. I know this isn't specifically what you were saying, but I was going for readability and usability. It may just be my opinion, but I believe they are pretty useful. Please read them if you haven't. I believe they cover a lot of ground, are easily readable, and not too cumbersome. They also link to the specific areas in which they can get specific information and strategies without clogging the flow. Let me know what you think.

I am also working on the 5.x articles for Planet Development. Because of the information in 3.x and 4.x, the 5.x articles do not need to be nearly as expansive as the SEIV manual. Plus, by linking to the reference and guide(s), not everything has to be so definitive. I'm not suggesting removing the information, but moving it to where it belongs so that manageability and readability are a reality for everyone, not just for people like you and I. I understand this is different from what has gone on here and if its frustrating, I apologize. I'll write whatever I can and I give you, and the entire community, full permission to split it or do whatever with it.
