Smart bomb

The Smart Bomb is a weapon which targets only planets and damages only specific facilities on those planets. There are two types of Smart Bomb:

Smart Bomb (RD) - targets Resupply Depots
Smart Bomb (SP) - targets Space Ports

The advantage of using a Smart Bomb is that it takes out enemy infrastructure, either preventing the enemy from resupplying (in the case of the RD model) or gathering resources (in the case of the SP model) without harming the population or other facilities. Smart bombs are also quite small and cheap, though they require lots of research into the Planetary Weapons tech area. These qualities make them ideal for hit-and-run missions.
