Quadrant Types (SEIV)
From SEWiki
Unmodded quadrants
Of the six quadrant types, all except Ancient affect only the placement of systems - not the kinds of systems generated.
- Mid-Life
- Systems are spread randomly throughout the quadrant. This leads to some dense areas and some sparse areas.
- Cluster
- Systems appear in twelve small square areas in the quadrant.
- Galactic Edge
- Systems are spread evenly throughout the quadrant, giving a quadrant that has approximately the same density throughout.
- Spiral Arm
- Systems tend to appear along a spiral starting from the center of the quadrant.
- Grid
- Systems appear only at the corners of a large grid.
Ancient quadrants have the same kind of system placement as Mid-Life quadrants, but have more systems without planets.
In 100 systems, a normal quadrant will have, on average:
- 67 normal single-star systems with planets.
- 8 binary star systems.
- 4 trinary star systems.
- 8 nebulae, of which one or two will have shield interference.
- 6 asteroid fields.
- 1 black hole.
- 6 miscellaneous other things.
In constrast, an ancient quadrant will have:
- 43 normal stars with planets.
- No binary or trinary stars.
- 20 storms.
- 12 asteroid fields.
- 10 black holes.
- 15 other things.
