Meson blaster

The meson blaster is an energy pulse weapon firing bursts of tunneling mesons (an actual real-world subatomic particle). These mesons are not apparently powerful enough tunnelers to be considered armor piercing, however. The meson blaster does not do a lot of damage, but it does not take up much space either. In Space Empires V, researching the meson blaster (by way of Energy Pulse Weapons) in conjunction with Point-Defense Weapons grants access to the Point-Defense Blaster, which is (as of version 1.00) one of the best if not the best point-defense weapon available. So even if you don't care for the meson blaster, in SE5 it is worthwhile to research anyway.
