Events are random occurances in a game of SE4 to keep it interesting. They range from an ion storm producing minor damage to a ship, to the sudden arrival of a plague (SEIV) on a planet, to the impending destruction of a star.

The frequency and severity of events is determined by settings when the new game is setup.

The AI is not particularly efficient at responding to catastrophic events. Therefore, raising them to a more frequent occurance actually provides a human player with a benefit.
