Cultures & Demeanors Mod (SEIV)
From SEWiki
The Cultures & Demeanors Mod (or C&D Mod for short) is an add-on mini-mod designed mainly to broaden the amount of cultures a player can choose from while setting up his race. While also adding several demeanors, multiple emperor titles and empire types and one happiness type, the C&D mod mainly consists of a massive amount of cultures. Stock SEIV had not much more than a dozen cultures, but the C&D Mod adds around 40 new ones and modifies the old ones.
The C&D Mod also increases the relevance of culture choices. "Bonus-only" stock cultures, like the Scientists, have been modified, but the real relevance comes when choosing one of the new cultures. Virtually every culture (which does not just include cultures, it also includes government forms, corporations, religions and outlooks on life) has major bonuses and penalties. Some cultures may actually change the way you play, turning SEIV from a combat-oriented empire management game to a game of politics, trade and industry.
For instance, the Pacifists have a whopping -80% modifier to space and ground combat, but have excellent research, production, trade and happiness bonuses. You might need a fleet of over half a dozen ships to take on one specimen of said ship in the hands of the enemy, but you'll receive adequate compensation in the form of, amongst other things, an 80% happiness bonus, a 40% repair bonus and a 30% maintenance bonus (as the C&D mod's regular maintenance level is set at 50%). On the other hand, Genocidal Megalomaniacs might not be able to trade with other races (-200% trade, after all they do want to wipe everyone else out), and they might get a 30% penalty to research, but they do get 80% bonuses in the fields of intel and combat (space and ground). Not to worry; these aren't all modifiers, just a few.
Strategia (the megalomaniac (-20 research, +60 intel, -80 trade, etc.) responsible for the C&D Mod) aimed to include as much cultures as possible, drawing from real life (which, amongst other things, has lead to a fascist and a nazi culture - the existence of these cultures does not imply anything except the fact that they are forms of rule - and such things as liberal and parliamentoral democracies), history (consulate republic, oligarchy, etc.), various sciencefiction sources (mainly Star Trek, but also The Cassini Division and 1984, to name a few books), some SEIV stuff (the Agrarian Society was inspired on the Provincial happiness type of the CB Mod and a big swatch of his own imagination (resulting in the various types of corporations, the Pacifists, the Ancient Monarchy and so on).
It can be found on the Shrapnel forums only, link coming soon.
